Haircuts and A New Fun Place

Today marked the first day in my new plan to take pictures every day in appreciation of the fact that my camera isn't actually broken. There was actually something to take pictures of, but more on that in a minute.
First, a recap of the weekend. Eli woke up before 6 on Friday morning and refused to go back to sleep or to even be quiet. Around 6:30 David asked me how early Eli could be at Gan. I told him 7:30 and by 7, David already had him dressed and out the door. Of course 5 minutes after they left when I finally was about to fall back asleep, Simon woke up. Both kids had been really sleeping late--until at least 7:30 or 8 so it was not fun getting up so early all of a sudden!
Friday night we went to Abby and Jonny's for dinner. They live way on the other side of town (considered SO SO far away, but really, it's a shorter walk than we used to do from Washington Square to Coolidge Corner on a regular basis!) so Jonny picked us up before Shabbos so that we'd only have to walk one way. There were 2 other families there too so it was a whole lot of kids and a whole lot of noise but they actually all played pretty nicely together and we were able to enjoy dinner. Simon and Eli are in love with Abby's baby, Emily, who is 5 months old. Both Simon and Eli spent a lot of time dancing to make her laugh and they each shared their bears with her.
She made such an impression on them, that Saturday morning, they each took their bears, wrapped them in blankets and called them "Baby Emily." Very cute. We were very slow getting our acts together in the morning and we made it to shul literally just in time for everyone to be going to the park, so we headed there as well. The weather was just perfect and the kids had a great time in the park with their friends. We went to Zara and David's for lunch along with the Dicksons and the Grays (who we now have had Shabbos lunch with 3 weeks in a row!). Simon was happy because he had Dalia to play with. Eli played with Yael a little bit--I don't think they remember at all that they were at Bettina's together last year. The Dicksons came home with us after lunch and hung out here for a bit and then everyone except for me went to the Tu B'Shvat thing at shul and I took a nap until Shabbos was over and they came back.
Today after school, I finally took the boys to get haircuts. Poor Simon has not been able to see in weeks!! Eli kept saying "no Eli haircut. Only Simon haircut." By the time we got to the place, he was agreeing that he would get a haircut too and then a present after. He was all talk when it was Simon's turn and then when it was his turn he freaked out. He cried for the whole haircut, but he stayed still so his hair came out ok. He looks so grown up.
We came home briefly just to get something to eat and then we met Audrey, Miri and Gila and went to a new gymboree place in Herzliya. It was amazing. It's similar to Imagine That in NJ that I took Simon to once. It has different areas where the kids can play pretend--there is a bank, a police station/jail, supermarket, bakery/cafe, doctor's office, beauty shop, etc. And there is a road that runs around the whole place with cars to drive. The best part (and least Israeli) about it is that it is spotlessly clean and the people who work there make sure that the toys from each part stay in each part and they clean up after each kid so that each area is always neat and organized for the next kid. We had been told to get there exactly at 4pm when it opens for the afternoon or else it gets very crowded. We were the first ones there and it was great. Even when it got more crowded, the kids were still always able to play with what they wanted to. Eli LOVED it, especially the supermarket where he settled in as the check-out guy and was scanning out everyone's purchases. He would hold up the product to the scanner and say "beep" and then move on to the next one.
Simon found the one video game in the place--in the police station they had a thing with a steering wheel, a pedal and a screen and you could drive the police car. He basically spent the entire time doing that. I did hear him have a whole long conversation with an older kid--must have been at least 7 or 8--entirely in Hebrew about how to drive the car. The kid was explaining to Simon about the pedals and he said "ecahd zeh gaz v'echad zeh..." (one is gas and the other is [i didn't catch the word but i assume it means brake]). Simon's response? "Ma zeh gaz?" (what is gas??). Apparently he knew the word for brake, but didn't get that "gaz" is "gas."
We stayed there until almost 6 and then came home for dinner. We have absolutely no food in the house since we were out for both meals on Shabbos. I was very happy and relieved when Simon asked for peanut butter and jelly on pita for dinner!! He did get out of his bed 1/2 an hour after he went to sleep saying that he was hungry so maybe that's not the best dinner...next time I will just give him an ice cream sandwich. That's a much more filling kind of sandwich!
