For some reason, yesterday's trip to Boston seemed much longer than past trips. I guess we don't usually have more than a 3 hour layover in whatever place we stop, but yesterday we had 5 full hours in London and it was painful!!
We got picked up at 5:30 am to go to the airport. Of course the driver did not have boosters for the kids--happens every time without fail no matter how many times I call to confirm. The kids were both awake and excited to go and were up for the whole 5 hour flight to London. David sat with Eli and I sat with Simon. Simon more or less watched tv the entire time with a couple of breaks to color. Eli watched a couple of DVDs and kept himself occupied for the first few hours as well and David and I got to watch movies too. We watched The Hangover which we had really been wanting to see and it did not disappoint! Towards the end of the flight, Eli got a little stir crazy. He wanted to sit on my lap and color (or tell me what colors to use and watch me color). That would have been fine except the woman sitting in front of me had her seat all the way back so the tray table was practically in my face when it was open. There was barely room for Eli to sit on my lap and have it open. That also would have been ok if the woman was actually sitting in her seat because she is entitled to put it back so she can sleep. But it was when she got up and stood next to her seat talking to her husband for at least 15 minutes that I got really annoyed!! She was looking right at me and saw how squished we were and she just didn't care.
When we got to London, we had to go through security again. Eli got scared for some reason and didn't want to walk through the metal detector alone, so I grabbed him and carried him through. Simon came too quickly after us and the alarm went off and they weren't sure who set it off so they had to search all of us. Eli was NOT happy about this and he actually slapped the security guy!!! Luckily the guy was nice about it and thought it was funny.
We spent 5 hours trying to keep the kids entertained and behaving. We failed miserably and it was pretty much 5 hours of torture. And we never even found the cafe that supposedly has kosher sandwiches.
We finally got on the plane and after a little bit of a delay and some whining from the kids (and from me and David to be honest), both kids fell asleep about 1/2 hour after take-off and we had to wake them up shortly before landing. That is my idea of a good flight!! It took forever to get out of customs and then we were all very happy to see Papu waiting for us.
We went to bed late and Simon and I were still both up by 5:30 am. David and Eli slept until 7. And now, we are off to Target!! Yay!
