Marriotts and More Marriotts

So much for my plan to document every day of our trip--I'm way behind! Things got a little crazy last week when we found out that Mama had fallen and broken her hip. Papu went to New York right away (of course right after he had offered to take the boys out for dinner so that my mom and I could go shopping...so much for that!!). Luckily Mama is ok--it wasn't a major break and she had surgery and is going to rehab today for a couple of weeks and she will be fine.
So we had a quiet Shabbos--Yael, Jesse and Shiraz came for dinner and it was great to see them. Eli only attacked Shiraz one time. That night Eli refused to go to sleep and ended up sleeping in bed with me. That did not make for a very good night's sleep for me and was the first in a string of bad nights for Eli (and me).
On Saturday we skipped shul and then went to Ahron and Sheera's for lunch. Thank god for Aleeza and Yakira who played with Simon and Eli for a very long time and we had a very nice lunch. When we got home, Jenna came over to visit and stayed until Shabbos was just about over.
Saturday night I hung out with Yael, Jess and Shira and got to meet Shira's new baby Avi. It was so great to finally be with all of them again.
Sunday morning we went to the airport yet again to go to Florida. The flight was crowded and bumpy and not very fun because Eli didn't want to sit still but at least I had my mom to help this time. We finally made it and checked in to the Marriott (which has the most comfortable beds in the world) and then went to see Granny at the rehab that she's at. Then Grandpa came with us and we went out for a quick dinner and then back to the hotel for quick showers and bed.
Eli and Simon had their own hotel room where they each had a very big bed. This was Eli's first real experience sleeping by himself in a big boy bed and he did pretty well, only falling out once.
On Monday we had breakfast in the hotel and then went to Grandpa's. Simon and Eli had a lot of fun playing golf and shuffleboard with him. The rest of the day was spent visiting Granny and then Grandma Judy who took us out for pizza again for dinner. We spent some more time with Granny after that and then went back to the hotel where I promised the boys they could have ice cream and watch tv in bed before going to sleep.
On Tuesday we went back to the airport to fly to New Jersey. That flight was much better than the one down to Florida and Eli made friends with the flight attendant. We got our rental car and then went to check into yet another Marriott (again with the comfortable beds) and then we went to Sarah's. Simon was thrilled to see Joshua and they had a great time together and they even let Eli play with them a little bit too.
On Wednesday we went to visit Mama at Mt Sinai and then we went back to Teaneck. Simon wanted to sit outside and wait for Joshua to come home from school even though he wasn't supposed to get there for another 2 hours! Shortly after he finally got home, Papu came over too and we took the traditional birthday pictures a little bit belatedly. The boys were cooperative because then they got to have cake before dinner.
After dinner, Joshua's friend Jacob and his brother Alex who is 4 came over to get Joshua and Simon to play football in the neighbor's backyard. They had the following conversation, as reported by Sarah:
Jacob: ok, me and Joshua will be the Giants and Simon and Alex can be the Broncos.
Simon: no, you will be the Giants and we will be the Mongos.
Jacob: what??
Simon: the MONGOS...with an M.
He just didn't want to be told what team he had to be.
We drove back to Boston Wednesday night while the boys slept and made it home in good time and then the kids finally slept through the night until almost 8. Actually, Simon woke up earlier but he went downstairs to find Ducky and didn't bother me.
In the morning I went to JCRC to visit which was nice and then returned the rental car. In the afternoon while Eli napped, I took Simon on a shopping trip to TJ Maxx and DSW. It was all under the guise of getting him rainboots but really I just wanted to do some shopping even though I knew the chances of either of those places having rainboots for him were pretty slim. He was a good sport about it all and tried very hard to convince me to buy sparkly blue shoes at DSW. He said "but they are so beautiful and you can wear them for dancing." I guess he doesn't know that I don't dance very well.
When we got home, I took the boys on a nature walk. Simon didn't want to go at first but then liked the idea when I explained to him what it was. We took paper bags and then walked around collecting leaves and sticks and other interesting things. It was fun and killed time until dinner, baths and bed--my favorite time of day!!
