The weekend started off with a bang, literally. Around 7pm on Friday as we were getting ready for Shabbos, there was a sudden huge thunder and lightening storm and suddenly our lights went out. Luckily all of the food was done cooking. Simon had a great time running around with a flashlight and standing on the porch watching the rain. David called Nstar and they said the lights would be back on by 10:30pm, so we lit a lot of candles and opened all the windows and hoped for the best. We had a romantic candle-lit dinner with Farrah, Barry and Karol. Simon was happy to see them even though when I told him they were coming over he said "but I don't like Farrah and Barry." I think he had them confused with someone else, because he does actually like them a lot. And Barry taught him how a corkscrew can also be a bird so that was very fun for him. I put Simon to bed just in an undershirt because it was so hot and for the first time in a long time he actually wanted his covers. I was worried about him overheating, but luckily the lights (and therefore, more importantly, the A/C) went back on shortly after he went to bed.
On Shabbos, we went to the Galpers for lunch and the Weinstocks and Scharfs were there too so there were lots of kids for Simon to play with. He liked playing with Elan the best, of course, but for a while all of the kids were playing in a tunnel that Elan has and were having a great time. Later, Simon wanted to play with a little blue bike that belonged to Aaron, who is 5. Aaron was playing with something else and Simon went up to him and asked if he could play with the bike. Aaron was completely ignoring him and Simon kept going closer and closer to him until he was right in his face saying "can i play with this blue bike?" I was surprised that Simon was asking and it's too bad that Aaron kept ignoring him because some positive reinforcement for that behavior would have been nice! Eventually Simon took his silence to mean that he could play with it.
We got home around 4 and Simon took a nice long nap, which meant that he stayed up late. Jenna came to babysit and Simon was still up. Before she came, I told him she was coming and he said that he wanted her to read him stories and put him to bed. He was happy to see her and thought it was hilarious that she was wearing a toe-ring. He pointed to it and said "what is that?" She said it's a ring and he laughed and said "ring not goes there!" Apparently he made her read him about 400 books but he was sleeping when we got home.
This morning he slept until 9 which was good because it gave us time to get ready for all of our company that was coming over. Most of the JCRC babies came over to play. I told Simon that some new friends (because I figured he didn't remember any of them since he hasn't seen them in so long) were going to come over. He said he wanted friends to come over and share his toys, but then as each one arrived he kept asking me "where are my friends?" He got happier once Zakkai got here--I think he was getting overwhelmed by all the girls! He ended up having a good time with everyone--Ella, Stella, Zakkai and Gabrielle. We tried to get a picture of all of them, but as you can see, it was impossible to get them all to look at the camera at once!
After they all left, Simon ate a piece of pizza for lunch and then took a nice long nap. When he woke up, David had gone to play frisbee and Simon wanted to go watch. First we went to JP Licks and got chocolate milkshakes and then we went to the park. Simon played with another little boy named Simon--they each referred to the other as "other Simon."
