Mama's Chanukah Party and Brunch with Ian

Yesterday morning we drove to New York for Mama's annual Chanukah party. As soon as we got out of the car in front of Mama's building and walked into the lobby, Simon started to very quietly say "no Mama, no Mama" and he kept saying it progressively louder and more insistently as we rode up the elevator. As the elevator door opened and he saw Auntie Sarah waiting for us, he mumbled something that might have been "hi Sarah" and then he launched into full-fledged screaming "no Mama." He didn't even stop when he saw Grandy, just flung himself from my arms into hers. The tears did stop immediately as soon as Mama showed him the fire truck that Judy had bought for him. That kid is so easily bought.
Simon had a great time at the party despite his not taking a nap at all. There were no biting incidents to my great pleasure! After everyone left, we stayed over at Mama's along with Sarah, Jon and Joshua. Simon and Joshua got along famously. They were running around and Joshua ran into his room and jumped on his bed saying "my bed, my bed" so of course Simon followed him doing the exact same thing also saying "my bed, my bed." Joshua didn't understand that Simon was just repeating him and he got a little bit annoyed and kept telling Simon, "no, Simon it's MY bed not yours!" They also played "Bar Mitzvah" and put on music and danced a lot.
Today we met Ari, Ilana and Ian for brunch in the City. Every place we tried to go to was closed, so we ended up eating in the basement of the Judaica store on 72nd Street. It is weird that there is a restaurant there and the dishes are all plastic, but we were the only people there so it was ok that Simon was running wild. Simon liked seeing Ian and only tried to poke his eyes out once.
I thought for sure Simon would sleep in the car on the way home, but he stayed awake the entire time. He was exhausted when we got home so he ate dinner, had a bath and went to bed before 7. Tomorrow it is back to the grind. I hate when vacation is over:(
