Simon had a jam-packed day today without even time for a nap! First we went to music class, where he had a great time mostly watching out the window as a kind of truck that he'd never seen before was removing a tree from the parking lot. He did participate in the instrument play-along, but other than that the tree was much more interesting to him than the class.
After music, we met up with David and the Isaacs for a quick lunch at Cafe Eilat. Simon and Zachy were very cute eating their pizza and french fries. When we left, they walked down Harvard Street holding hands like a teeny-tiny (and very handsome) gay couple.
We had gone to Eilat in 2 cars since David came from baseball and we came from music class. Simon went home with David and when I got home a few minutes after they did, David was upstairs in the shower and Simon was sweeping the kitchen floor!!
We headed out to Ikea in the hopes that Simon might nap in the car (he didn't) or that he would stay in a good mood despite not having a nap (he did). Simon really liked Ikea because there were lots of fun things for him to play with. He tried out all the beds and we didn't get him the one that he wanted because his favorite one was actually a futon, not a real bed. We told him he couldn't have the futon and he lay down on it and said "I want it 'dis FUTON!" He did like the bed we ended up getting him--it has 3 big drawers underneath that slide out all the way and he liked pulling them out and pushing them back in. His new bed is now in the boxes that it came in in the basement--any bets on how long it takes until David actually puts it together? Simon is actually not that excited about it, but at least when he goes to Dr. Roth for his 2-year appointment this week I can tell her that we bought him a bed which will make her happy.
We also bought Simon a little red table and 2 blue chairs and a big gigantic turtle that he really wanted so badly. He loves the table and chairs. We put it together when we got home and he sat down and said "I eat breakfast now?" He sat there and ate a bowl of animal crackers while watching a DVD for a good 1/2 hour while David and I put stuff away and cleaned up upstairs.
After dinner, the 3 of us sat out on the front porch and ate popsicles and then David taught Simon how to climb a tree, which you can see in this video:

OK... WHY does your doc want Simon in a big boy bed? WHY WHY WHY? I am planning to keep Ella in her crib until she climbs out or turns 12, whichever comes first.
